Modified Grapes

Symbiotic Genetics
Modified Grapes is a unique hybrid cannabis strain created in Sacramento, California. A descendant of Purple and Cookies strains, this variety produces eye-catching buds with alluring colors, intense aromas, and a super relaxing stone. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about Modified Grapes, its history, origins, and more.

History of the Modified Grapes Strain

Modified Grapes was created by Symbiotic Genetics, a seed company founded in 2014 in Sacramento by acclaimed growers/breeders The Village and Budologist.

The Village got his start in the cannabis industry in 2010 as a budtender at a dispensary known as the Sacramento Care Center. In 2011, the dispensary opened up its own grow operation, and The Village quickly migrated to the grow room and served for a full year as the dispensary's grunt grow room worker. In fact, he lived at the warehouse that housed SCC's grow-op for close to 4 years. Eventually, he worked his way up to the head of the grow facility he and his coworkers jokingly called "The Village" (which obviously served as the inspiration behind his nickname).

During his time as head grow facility manager at SCC, The Village helped supply medical-grade cannabis to over 15 patients for free as part of the dispensary's compassion project. Soon after, The Village began collaborating with pioneering BHO craftsman Matt Rize. Through his connections as a grower, The Village eventually met Budologist in 2013, an experienced breeder with access to a wide variety of cuts and seeds. Soon after, the two founded Symbiotic Genetics and created a plethora of extremely successful strains, including Mimosa, Banana Punch, and Cherry Punch, many of which have become household names among cannabis enthusiasts and patients.

To date, Symbiotic Genetics has placed in several Emerald Cannabis Cups, opened a dispensary, and created countless more hybrid strains, all of which are renowned for their potency and terps. While Mimosa is still the brand's most successful creation, other highly regarded strains by Symbiotic Genetics include:

• Modified Grapes
• Miracle Fruit
• Candied Oranges
• Cara Cara
• Ginger Mints

Genetic Lineage of Modified Grapes

A descendant of Purple Punch and GMO, Modified Grapes boasts some stellar genetics. Below we'll take a closer look at both of its parents in more detail.

Symbiotic Genetics inherited a number of Purple Punch clones and seeds from Supernova Gardens (the Hawaiian growers collective renowned for creating the original Purple Punch) during their early days. Besides producing dense and dark purple flowers with unbelievable trichome density, Purple Punch is known for its strong aroma of sweet grapes and berries and its super sedating effects. Purple Punch has been a staple in the American genetics game ever since its creation in 2013, and is still used to create modern hybrids to this date. According to cannabis folklore, the Purple Punch plant used to create Modified Grapes is the same phenotype that The Village and Budologist used to create the almighty Mimosa.

GMO, Modified Grapes' second parent, is just as famous as Purple Punch. Bred by Mamiko Seeds in 2013, GMO (aka Garlic, Mushroom, and Onions) is a unique savoury strain renowned for its pungent aroma of, you guessed it, fried garlic, mushrooms, and onions. A cross of Chemdawg and GSC, GMO descends from some of the US' most renowned genetic lines and, despite its funky aroma, continues to win over the hearts of recreational and medical tokers alike. Besides its unique aroma, GMO is treasured for its high THC levels (which can exceed 30%) and extremely sedative effects.

Modified Grapes is a hybrid strain that seems to have slightly indica-leaning genetics. As is to be expected of a descendant of Purple Punch, Modified Grapes has inherited PP's sweet berry and grape aroma, as well as the tendency to produce stunning purple flowers. At the same time, the strain has also inherited dank chemical fuel notes and a super tight bud structure from its GMO parent.

Physical Characteristics of Modified Grapes

Based on pictures and videos from growers as well as Symbiotic Genetics, Modified Grapes plants are nice and compact, with a tendency to develop a strong central stem and solid branches that compete for the top of the plant's canopy. Modified Grapes' indica genes definitely shine through in its morphology, as the strain shows tightly spaced nodes, dark green leaves with broad leaflets, and a very tight bud structure characteristic of indica plants.

As Modified Grapes plants flower, they tend to take on beautiful dark colors and produce buds with a spectacular mix of forest green and deep violet colors. As is to be expected of such a high-caliber hybrid, Modified Grapes produces excellent amounts of resin.

Properties and Effects of Modified Grapes

According to reviews and user reports, Modified Grapes regularly tests at around 23–24% THC, though some growers have published results showing the strain can pack up to 38% total cannabinoids. The strain also packs a rich mix of terpenes and, according to users, is particularly rich in caryophyllene, limonene, and pinene, which help to create the strain's dank aroma of ripe berries and grapes, with a hint of petrol. The flavor of this strain is dominated by rich notes of ripe berries, followed by a honey-like sweetness on the exhale.

As is to be expected of such a cannabinoid monster, Modified Grapes delivers very strong effects. Most users report an immediate rush of euphoria after toking on this strain; something that allows those with a tolerance to focus on chores or work for a while before cashing in on a relaxing, sedative stone.

Meanwhile, users with a low tolerance should tread with caution when smoking this strain, as its potency can be overwhelming to the uninitiated.

Uses of Modified Grapes

Modified Grapes is a fairly popular strain, receiving a lot of praise from both recreational and medical cannabis users. Rec smokers, for example, enjoy this strain:

• As a natural nightcap
• On lazy weekends or staycations
• While recovering from a workout

Medical cannabis patients also treasure this strain. Based on reports from medical cannabis patients, Modified Grapes might prove beneficial for patients with:

As is the case with most high-potency weed strains, Modified Grapes isn't without its side effects. According to user reports, Modified Grapes may cause:

• Anxiety
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Paranoia

Cultivation and Production of Modified Grapes

Modified Grapes by Symbiotic Seeds is available in seed form from a number of seed resellers. Unfortunately, none of these retailers nor Symbiotic Genetics provide any information about the strain and its growth traits. Based on pictures from growers, Modified Grapes seems to be nice and compact (as described above), which may lend it well to indoor cultivation. The strain's indica dominance suggests it is likely fast-flowering and high-yielding, though the actual yields provided by this strain will vary depending on how she is grown.

Modified Grapes — A Sweet and Gassy Purple Punch Descendant

Modified Grapes was bred by Symbiotic Genetics in Sacramento from a combination of Purple Punch and GMO strains. A slightly indica-dominant hybrid with high THC levels and rich terpenes, Modified Grapes is prized by both recreational and medical cannabis users. The strain is also available in seed form from some resellers and may be a good pick for indoor growers due to its small stature and vigor.
