Brought about 30g to Ontario for the teams to try.
Good feedback from all including the category manager at OCS...great feedback for a home grown. Still need to hear from my bud Rich and our Master Grower at work.
Will likely trim the small tent tomorrow or Tuesday and the other 2 on Thursday.
Only 2 plants left, harvested the other 2 today. Trichomes were about 30-50% amber
The macro shots taken yesterday show the start of amber trichomes on the single topped. I want a good 30% amber and the rest milky to capture the THC. I’ve started the flush and should be able to begin the harvest next weekend.
Flushing
Likely the last feeding before I’ll cycle to a water flush. At least 1 week before harvest, possibly 2.
Long process, but seemed to have fixed the issue. I ended up having to trim off 8 small stems that I couldn’t tape or bring back. Under microscope, this is actually a fine time to harvest with most milky white trichomes, and a few amber starting to show. I want to get a full week flush in so I’ll do that now on this plant.
Steps to fix:
Took some yellow nylon twine and wrapped the front two plants around them a couple of times to hold the branches in. I was then able to cut away the original netting without fear of damaging any more branches. I moved one plant out, and realized the whole plant was swaying, so I also grabbed some bamboo stakes and put them in. I pushed the main stalk to where it should be, and placed the bamboo right beside it going in a good 6 inches into the soil. The main branch basically has a crutch to lean on for all the plants now. I was then able to get to the back of the tent to get at the bent/broken stems. I tried to save the bent ones, straightening them out and wrapping with painters tape for stability, but I was doing more damage to the good buds and stability of the tree fighting with the gloves, tape and delicate broken stems, so I opted to trim those just below the break with clean trimmers, and hung those 8 little buds to dry. Once that one was cleaned up and looking better, I used a lasso to tie to the top cross bar and to the top and heavier buds so they have support, plus with the yellow twine wrapped around, they’ll do fine for another week or two as I do the final flush.
The double topped is still not drinking. I think it’s been a full lock out. Not sure if this is salvageable. May try another flush but it’s been a week and no water uptake in this plant. The rust on the leaves is becoming more predominant.
All. It the double topped got water and nutrients
I’ll add a couple of images over the next couple of days as I know she’ll look all droopy tonight /tomorrow as the flush will over water her.
Will monitor for the next few days and see how this affects the water intake. If it’s still stunted, I’ll do a full flush and let it dry a little before going back to watering.
Drinking less as they get closer to harvest.
A couple of the plants only needed 1.5L, and the double top has slowed its drinking. Only added a litre to that one and will monitor to ensure its drinking.
Christmas tree looks good. Possibly 2 more weeks.
The single topped look like 3 more weeks, and the double topped looks like it’ll need 4-6 weeks making the double top a 12 week flower.
On last phases of nutrients, late bloom. Using the recommendation and have dropped the flora grow for the rest of the bloom. Have increased to 8ml of bloom to support the last push.
Adding calmag - 5ml to each gallon before adding nutrients.
I know the Christmas tree had nitrogen deficiencies, but this is starting up the plant, and not at the base where nitrigoen would usually show first.
Doing some reading in the “Marijuana Garden Saver”, the lower curling leaves and the fact I’m using RO water is making me think it’s a calcium deficiency. This also reduces potassium uptake which is what I thought this was based on images. I’ve added calmag to all in recommended quantities of 1.25ml per litre. Will add this to the next feeding cycles going forward and monitor.
The additional micro nutrients on the Christmas tree seem to be aleaviating the yellowing so I’ll continue for the next week or so with additional nitrogen for this plant.
It’s amazing how fast, fat and tall these colas are getting. I hadn’t seen this kind of growth on the previous GSC plant, although I had serious deficiencies on the GSC during early flower weeks which I assume locked out some nutrients and in the end, overall growth.
They were good buds, just light. They’ll grind up great though once fully cured. I’ll update the log with some fresh pics tomorrow during watering.
Using the mid flower recommendations
In comparison, the other topped and defoliated plants are not showing any signs of stress or nutrient deficiencies.
Height updates:
Christmas tree - 122 cm
Single topped - 106 cm
Double topped - 96 cm
Last time to defoliate in flower. Double check if last stretch is done, then clean up. Remove only fan leaves blocking lower nodes.
Added a L of water and half dose of micro nutrients (nitrogen) for the Christmas tree. It was the only plant not defoliated and is showing signs of a deficiency. I’ll monitor and see if the additional nitrogen fixes the issue, or if it’s a different issue. It’s yellowing starting from the bottom fan leaves so I’m hoping I’ve caught it in time.
Just added 1/2 dose to the Christmas tree.
Since the end of veg defoliation, all trimmed plants have fully developed a new canopy that does block node sites getting full light on the mid and lower branches. Cleaning these up again should allow good light penetration to the bud sites promoting better growth. I hope it provides a more dense bud in this early growth stage.
Last defoliation
Week 3 flower recommended nutrient ratios
Minor yellowing on the Christmas tree that has had no manipulation done to it. I assume it’s just a slight nitrogen deficiency so added a little extra grow to it during today’s watering. This plant also has not been defoliated at all so using the same nutrient level for this plant may need to be monitored for further deficiencies over the ones that were topped and heavily defoliated.
Heights:
Double topped - 84 cm
Christmas tree - 111 cm
Single topped - 104 cm
All the plants fully recovered and have canopy coverage back up after the major defoliation the week before flipping to flower. I’ll do one more defoliation at the end of week 3 flower and then not defoliate again until harvest, aside from dead/dying leaves. The defoliation really helped getting light to the lower nodes, and growth is very apparent from the new fan leaves off every bud site. Seeing the smaller popcorn buds that were on the bottom of the GSC, I still think you can beef these up with good maintenance. I may try really scrubbing all the lower nodes on one plant to test the theory that scrubbing those lower branch nodes cause the cola to become shorter, but more dense? I like the nice arm sized colas, so if it stunts the growth, I may always leave them and just keep the new little fan leaf growth to a minimum in order to direct more of the energy upwards on the branch.
2nd week of flower recommended nutrient mix
Using first week of flower recommended GH nutrient levels
The non topped twin is 102cm, the topped ones are 84cm
Final veg nutrients before moving to flower
Topping back up from Monday’s shortfall. 2 plants still a little wet, so 1-1.5L, the dry ones got 2L
Ran low on RO water. Just gave 1 L and will properly water/feed Wednesday
3 plants look like a little nitrogen deficiency. Will monitor over the next few days.
Final veg week ratio’s
Out of water! Could only give a little. Giving them a good soaking tomorrow when I’ve got pH’d
Upped nutrient to final veg stage 5/5/2.5
Doing an extra straight watering to add a little extra moisture back to the soil after missing the watering by a day. Surprisingly dried out quite a bit.
Lst clips have all been removed and will let this one rest. Week 5 in veg so it’ll have 3 weeks at least to recover before flipping to flower. May lollipop the bottom of this twin, but will let it recover a week first.
Need to increase the water amounts per feeding. I should have watered yesterday but a day missed shouldn’t wilt the plant as much as the one did. It started recovering as soon as it was watered. Getting up to a couple of litres per feeding twice per week.
Regular nutrient suggestion for 5th week veg.
1 was looking quite wilted. The rest were ok. A little light. Should have watered yesterday. Will see how the 1 recovers in a few hours.
Straight water today, no nutrients. Had minor colour on some tips and edges of fan leaves. It may be due to a potassium deficiency. Either way, straight water should provide further data.
Straight water today. Noticed the tips on two plants have slight colour to them, as does the edge of a fan leaf. Will run water today and next session do nutrients.
Half nutrient and half straight water combo. Wanting to add a little to the new soil these got transplanted into.
Decided to use the lst clips while the stems are nice and pliable. It’s still a little stressed from the topping done earlier today. Will do a good watering in the morning and will look to add additional clips over the next two weeks before a second topping. Trying to do a manifold / main line.
Plants received nutrients and water in their new homes. They’re adapting very nicely.
Plants have looked a little droopy the past couple of days. Water meter confirmed moisture and pH levels were good but started getting a little yellowing as well. Added the first nutrient in low dose and will see how they react. Once they’ve had a few days adjusting to their 5 gallon homes, I’ll start the lst with the plastic benders and train them out. I’ll top at least 2 and get ScrOG going on them. I may need to put up netting inside the whole 4x4 side, just need to figure out the heights for watering the back corner.
See images.
5 seedlings in various states of health are gaining roots. Got a couple inches height but one had trouble shedding the seed husk and is spindly due to no light absorption. One is stunted but developed many leaves? 2 look beautiful. Good colyden leaves came out for both of these. They’ve now sprouted initial leaves, growing tall for the light and getting stronger. I used a stick to keep one upright, but these two seem the most likely to be the ones to keep.
I may try fimming and topping techniques on the others to note the reactions as my understanding is these are NOT autoflower. I’d like to try multiple toppings keeping it in veg a good 12 weeks. Want to see if I can make a nice medusa nuken tree. Min 8 kolas but want to push one to a 16 head beast.
I’ll have to really watch the health and node growth to determine the maximum opportunity to cut again. Three weeks between topping? Key will be the start timing.
Kept at: 20-24 degrees at 65% to 75% humidity.
Water: 6 - 6.5 pH
