Purple Kush:

After putting buds in jar a few days ago the first reading was 53% without leaf. After one leaf was added humidity raised up to 57% RH. Then up to 60% RH with the second one and after leaving overnight it went back down to 57% RH. So today I added another leaf to bring that back up.

Harvest day, trimming went ok and lasted around 2 hours. The leaves were not very dense and not at all my worst trim session.

I placed the air purifier and humidifier in the dry space and hung it up.

Temps went up to around 23C and I am starting out with around 50% first days then later I might slow that down with around 55 to 60%

Adjusted lights strength a little over Nova OG and its now receiving around 34000 Lux with Pie #2 receiving around 33000 Lux and Purple receiving just 28000 Lux.

After blocking sun from shining in on the metal intake filter the temps and humidity did better. I placed the filter under the window and some sun was coming through and shining directly on the filter which caused it to heat up and create higher temps in the tent. Big mistake. Anyhow now that that issue is resolved I notice more stable temps and humidity. I keep the outside humidifier on 60% and the inside on at 50% although this is something I am constantly switching up where I could just turn the inside one off and keep just the outside one on when it gets too humid.

Lower Kingbrite light over Pie #2 so the plant can start getting higher levels of light going into its last 3 weeks of Bloom, around 32000 Lux. The plant is doing overall well except its still way too green, maybe some increased light and heat will help to burn out some of the extra nutes. Not sure why that is since it is in the same soil mix as Purple and that one didn't have that issue but I might want to adjust my super soil mix to include no extra blood meal in the flower mix. There is more than enough nitrogen in all the other dry nutes plus soil.

With Purple on the other hand, less light at this stage is better, it's developed enough and is not as greedy for light like in the middle stages of flower. So a relax finish with less heat stress seems like a good idea. I decreased the light to around 32000 Lux

Temps did better today than it did yesterday. I was home and helped monitor temps and humidity.

The last days have seen some rainy type weather and the humidity would have gone past 70% if I didn't have the dehumidifier to stop it. I let that run mostly in the evening, night and early morning before the lights came on to help reduce the levels to avoid getting top much humidity in the Mammoth since I am already afraid bud rot will show up again.

I came home early from work and immediately started working on the environment because it was a hot enough day where temps were high and since the plants were due for a drink and their soil looking pretty dry, I had to act fast to help them better cope with the heat. So I fed them, added just a little bit more humidity and let some more fresh air in by opening the windows a bit broader. After all that things seemed OK again

I have been adjusting light wattage slowly above Nova and Pie #2 the last days trying to get them to 30000 Lux which Nova is almost at and Pie #2 still hanging between the 27000 to 28000 Lux. I am not recording this info with perfection because it feels like something that needs to be done on feel. Around this stage just keep adjusting slowly and whatever they can take varies from plant to plant. There is really no one variable that works all across the board at this stage. It's really just whatever the plant is comfortable with.
Registros de la planta
Nota
Checked trichs and they are still not fully where I need them to be regarding maturity. The bud rot seems controlled since I removed portions of the one bud and after watering when I checked the bottom backside of the tent the liquid that sprayed against the tent was creating a whole lot of bacteria or fungus looking things on the side of the tent or even possibly mold. I had to wipe that away and need to be more careful in the future with making everything nasty with watering. I might need to adjust the spray nozzle so it let's water flow instead of spray.

The plant is struggling to manage the weight of the buds, reminding me of the rose plant when the roses get too heavy the plant begins to struggle to hold them up and so I had to use pieces of cord to tie side branches to main stem and main stem to the side of the pot. That should keep it to when it's done I guess

The tent was having some white powdery looking things on the side. Not sure if it was mildew growing or if it was liquid that rubbed off the plants when they were leaning up against it before I got the Expando tent maximiser. So since some but rot showed it I decided to wet a kitchen towel with some plain water with a small amount of apple vinegar and wipe away these white powdery marks. Should have actually done this sooner.

Temps went fast into the higher values, for some reason the attic is being warn even with heater hardly on. In the night however it dropped to 18C.

Humidity had been having some issues at night where it goes as high as 60% and caused me to lose a top piece of one bud so I am going to need to pay more attention to that in the night. I noticed that at nights I need to make sure I am not adding more and more moisture into a situation that doesn't need it. I left the humidifiers out on this Saturday night and no extra humidity needed to be added. Actually I had to put the dehumidifier in action to remove excessive amounts and bring down room humidity from 63% to 55% I the evenng time.
Registros de la planta
Nota
Did a trich check and thought I saw what would be a lot of Amber which surprised me because last I checked it was pretty much clear. Then I decided to remove the plant and prepare it for dry since coincidentally I was cleaning up the air purifier and was about to clean up the dry space by vacuuming the area and arranging some space up there.

After removing it and repositioning the Pie #2 to take over the space I checked the trichs again and realised that the many Amber trichs I was seeing was not from the bigger mature trichs but actually from some smaller deformed trichs that somehow end up turning Amber faster than the majority big headed ones. Most of the mature big headed trichs are still not ready as I imagined. So I placed the plant back into the tent.

Placing the plant back inside the tent I noticed one bud having some brown looking buds which I removed because I suspect bud rot from the high humidity levels in the morning and cold temps. I will be paying better attention to this to avoid more issues for this and future grows.

For the rest the plant is doing very well and buds are still maturing and filling out actually more than I expected.

Lowered light above Pie #2 to 45 cm so that she reads around 27000 Lux in the middle, it's time to start pushing her light limits because she is in Bloom but still hasn't breached the 600 umol Bloom recommendations. I am hoping slow increases in the next few days go well

Turned down light above Purple to around 34000 Lux to soften light in last days to harvest.

Light readings above Nova is no more than 25000 Lux yet still her leaves spiralled out of control and still ended up burning up. This must be one of the most softest strains to light intensity.

Today I left outside humidifier on at 60% and inside on at 50% and this gives a good balance of around 51% inside tent.

Temps went better today with nights going as low as 18C then slowly rising during the daytime after lights go on. See measurement values for lights on averages.

The central heating is on a constant 20C day and night. Typically tent values will be 3C higher than outside tent. So when room temp is 20C then temp temps range from 23C - 25C. However during the daytime if it gets hot outside then I have to open a window or two to offset the extra heat. Its not very hot this week but in fact cold and rainy so I only crack open the back window to let in a little cooler air to balance out the warm air a bit coming from the heater plus let some fresh air inside. This works fine on a rainy cold day with heater on at 20C. I crack open the window early when I leave for work and close it when I come home. When I get home the room is cool and the air is fresh but temps are just a few points off perfect. So closing the window helps to bring the temps up and they can have a solid lights on night before they go to sleep.

The Expando maximiser came today and I installed it. It works and does what it's supposed to do and I am happy with it. The plants are now spaced better.

Temps went a bit heavy today because of some weird confusion with the readings in the tent. The central heating is set to 20C but it is not balanced the way it works in the attic and it ended up running too much in the attic and warming things up to 23.5C outside tent and up to 27C inside tent with humidity not being optimal either to balance out these high temps running between 48 to 50% inside tent. I must say though even with these high numbers they didn't seem that stressed when I checked them and when I came home I just turned off the heater in the room and opened the window and after a while some fresh air rushed through the room, cooled it down and refreshed the old air and things were running optimal again and comfortable.

I ph'd low again still trying to figure out a way to beat the potassium deficiency slowly coming up in Pie #2. It's progressing slow but I am hoping I can figure out a way to stop it by either adding more potassium or hopefully getting a good ph range. Not sure which it is but I am trying to find a balance in the remedy and hopefully one of the two will work out soon enough. Inspection of yesterday and todays photos of one sick leaf shows the deficiency still slowly progressing. Follow up sick leaf accidentally broke off during watering so I am watching another leaf that just started getting potassium burns.

I won't be taking leaves off this girl because I will need as much as I can to survive this problem.

Tested Trichs on Purple with the WiFi microscope and am not yet a big fan of this microscope. It isn't much sharper than my old one just yet. The trichs from what I saw were half milky half clear so that's good news as the plant can spend another week or two fattening up.

Nova is having some serious Calmag issues so I added extra Calmag this time and hopefully that will help because the nute issues are getting bad and thats ruining this beautiful plant

Purple Kush
36000 Lux/ 792 umol
34 cm (stop growing)

Pie #2
25000 Lux/ 550 umol

I am stopping with calculating the info for Pie #1 because it is not looking very promising and worth it. I put her in the far corner and made more room for Nova to move over so the Purple Kush could also have more room for her buds.

I had to raise the light above the Pie #2 because it was growing up rapidly into the light and was receiving a little bit more than it should showing very slight taco reaction in the leaves. As much as growth is still doing well I am hoping it will do well in accessing flower nutes and also build a good enough harvest. So I need to fix the potassium burn issues as soon as possible.

I figured what was going wrong with the daytime temps and all I really need to do is make sure the heater is off during daytime and leave the windows slightly open. The heater was still running hot when the temps downstairs dropped because of a open door or something like that and it would also just affect the attic because it seems the heater in the attic just goes along with whatever the heating downstairs does. It doesn't regulate according to just what's happening in the attic which can cause big issues. So during daytime I need to just turn the heater in the attic off to avoid problems.

The rest of the plant though is still looking amazing but hopefully this nute issue doesn't get worse and fuck that up. The nute issue showing up is more than likely Potassium burn related from what I am seeing. Maybe the ph has gone out of range in the soil and I may need to ph lower. The Meijiu 120w was running a little over at 123w and max out at 140w. I reduced it to 119.3w to avoid burning out the leds.

I tested the second Meijiu and it's just pulling 131w from the total 239.9w shared between the Kingbrite thats reading out on the first wifi socket. So basically the Kingbrite light is using a simple 109w which is rather impressive. Obviously when the Pie #2 grows taller I will need less light and will be able to turn the Meijiu 120w down because right now its like almost 60 cm away from the light. The amount of light power in the tent is definitely enough to easily flower out four plants like a boss

Pie #2 is growing great without issues. No complaints and the least worries. Kush was a bit faster in growth and light acceptance but Kush takes a shorter time before harvest so the extra one or two weeks on the Pie will make up for any slow start.

The windows were today slightly open in the attic so it caused some lower levels in humidity than I would have liked but coming home and looking at the plants it seemed they didn't mind that at all because the lower levels were really not that way off.

I took plants out of tent to check their colors especially Nova because it is showing some leaf tip bending that looks like Nitrogen toxicity while I was worried it might have been having some nitrogen deficiency based off the fact I never fed it nitrogen or added any nitrogen to this slow release soil. Apparently the soil has more than enough nitrogen in it and the leaves look pretty green in daily and I am hoping the slow release nitrogen doesn’t damage the plant with overload. I will use this soil in the future because in general it is good but I will need to dilute it with the regular so it doesn’t cause this problem in the future.

So after a day of leaving the plants alone for work the weather being good outside caused the room to warm up causing temps of up to 26.5C which it seems didn't work out with the positive pressure setup. So I removed the two extra tubings and let the pressure return to full which I hope will move the warm and old air faster out the tent. From the looks of the plants it seemed this was not happening and the plants didn't look as happy when I checked in on them after work. Also everything was looking dry and thirsty, Nova was even showing some signs of calmag issues which I can't tell if those were old or new. But in its stressed out and thirsty state it looked a bit new plus even the smaller Pie #2 is showing a little calmag issues which I didn't expect. It's slight but it's showing up. I thought feeding it calmag from early would avoid this but obviously that wasn't sure proof. I remember in the past though heat stress from hot temps caused calmag to show up and I am wondering if there is a link between the warm temps today and the calmag thats showing up today.

Anyhow I opened a few windows for cold and fresh air, fixed positive pressure to maximum and that helped a bit to restore some amount of happiness in the tent.

Cleaned up the tent by removing all plants, taking out the floor protection, cleaning it and vacuuming out dust that seems to be developing in every possible small place like zippers, a negative air pressure issue I need to fix.

I cleaned and vacuumed the whole attic and decided to try positive air pressure by attaching the in-line fan to the intake filter pulling air through it pushing air in and through the tent exiting three open holes top side with just tubing in them. Some positives that come with positive air pressure is the obvious, less suction of the sides of the tent losing space and if the sides are not sucked in my oscillating fan can oscillate freely without hindrance from sucked in side tent corners.

I first tried one exit hole but the tent was bulging stiff so I try up to three and was satisfied with that. Although with three the tent seems a bit too relaxed so I might end up back at two exit holes. The plants however are happy and temps and humidity are ok, humidity being set to 55% lowest mist speed.

The lights are now using up to 345 watts after a few increases the last few days.

Had to remove one plant to water them all because there is not much space to navigate around the plants without damaging them, it's getting pretty crowded in there.

I clipped away very few leaves on the Pie #2. Maybe just one on the Purple and Pie #1

Light adjustments, I raised the 240w light to 45cm above Nova OG. After taking her out the tent to examine her leaves to see if she was having a shortage of nitrogen by checking that in natural light it turned out she didn't need it but what I noticed was her actually size. She is bigger than I imagine and so I measured the plant from soil and to my surprise she is 67cm tall.

I increased light amounts to 17000 Lux above Nova and Pie #1

Above Pie#2 light is reading out at 15000 Lux

Purple is reading out at 35000 Lux

Finding the comfortable humidity to temp balance gets tricky the further it goes into flower I imagine from how that is going at the moment. Seems that will take more effort than I imagined

Got my new bigger 10 liter Hozelock pressure water sprayer that actually fits 8 liters and made a 8 liter mix for all 4 plants with 5 ml each Rhino Skin, Algamic, Biovin and Fulvic 25. Then I also added 8ml each Calmag, Liquid Seaweed, Activera, Bio Heaven, Bloom and Top Max. Also added additionally 3ml each Epic Bloom, roots and lastly one big tablespoon molasses. Ph down from 6.6ph to desired ph value.

I removed two lower big fan leaves off Pie #2 because they were hanging down into the soil and also two middle top big fan leaves off Nova after I saw how bushy it was and how the fan leaves were blocking side bud sites that are already suffering to catch up the one middle cola in the middle

So I lowered the humidifiers to bring down the humidity to 60% in the tent and repositioned the humidifier in the tent so when the mist rises the fan sucks it upwards and pushes out evenly into the tent so it doesn't first end up on leaves of nearby plants which could cause mold. I am also trying to find a good RDP of 60% and 23C that works best for late veg and early flower. I am slowly figuring out which room temp and humidifier setting will achieve this. I am almost there.

I has to turn up the light intensity over the smaller plants as they are all lagging behind and a big reason for this is the amount of light they are receiving. Especially Pie #2. I hope it catches up fast enough. It is now getting somewhere close to 14000 Lux and the other two Pie #1 and Nova around 14500 Lux with Purple doing great receiving from over 32000 Lux at top canopy and a lot of good light reach at side branches because of the two extra lights crossing over. I will be increasing the light intensity over the three smaller plants on a daily to get them where they need to be

I reduced the humidity levels to 55% and mist level lowest.
The space for safety adding humidity in the tent is getting smaller. I noticed the mist coming out the humidifier was starting to blow directly on plant leaves and I don't like the idea so I rearranged things to better avoid too much direct and indirect humidity at a stage where most plants could do with a little less going into flower. So inside humidifier is at 55% lowest mist level and outside humidifier at 50% medium mist.

Purple Kush:

The lights were reading a little heavy on one side of the top colas which was obviously getting longer so I centred the plant for a more balance light spread and I turned the light a little bit lower because with so much time left to go this plant is always consuming way ahead of what seems healthy. Even with no signs of damage I think it's wise to take it a little slower so one day the plant doesn't end up crashing and burning from all that light.
So I worked it out that each top canopy is getting around 30000 Lux/660 umo at around 35 cm away from canopyl. The other two lights are contributing side light and that helps the plant to spread wide and look as awesome as it is because it is not depending on just light from one light above it but each light source is doing a great job at cross sharing their light.

I increased the light of the other plants where Pie# 2 and Nova are reading out around 13500 Lux. I really want these to start accepting more because they all behind on the amount of light I expected them to be taking already.

Pie#2 is just accepting.around 10000 Lux. I really need to puch these plants to be stronger and accept more light. They need to be taking more and getting bigger.

Made a light water feed mix of 5.5 liters since watering is getting a bit more constant I don't need to be feeding anywhere near full dosage. The weekly dosage has to be split in the two or three times I water. So this feed I went even lower than the last.

I fed as usual 5ml Calmag, Liquid Seaweed and since I didn't feed these last time also 5ml Biovin, Fulvic 25 and Algamic. I then added 3ml Activera, Bloom and Top Max. My Bio Heaven bottle was finishing and had like 6ml left in it so I just poured that all in there. I added 1 tblsp molasses.

For some strange reason this solution just ended up at the average ph needed and I didn't have that ph like I normally would so I just left it there.

Light measurements for today.

Purple:

I checked the light reach and seems the plant has further grown and is using up 30000 Lux/ 660 umol which seems insane but since I didn't see a lot of complaints at the top leaves I just left it there for now because even though at top canopy readings may be more than sufficient there are many lower bud sites not at canopy level that also need as much light as they can possibly get and lower the light levels at top canopy will also lower at bottom levels. So a balance of high at top and medium at middle will have to do for now.

I adjusted the light intensity so both Nova and Pie #1 receive around 13000 Lux/ 286 umol. They should have been able to take as much light long ago but they always showed signs of not being able to handle more. I think though they are at that cross roads where they are getting stronger and can now start handling more light since they are now in preflower.

Pie #2 is doing super, receiving around 9000 Lux of light. Topped her today.

I didn't add as much nutes as I did last time because this time was supposed to be like a reduced nute feed day to avoid nute burn issues.

I also clipped away some dried up leaves and leaves that were blocking bud sites plus a few lower bud sites that wouldn't turn into much. Not many but just enough to help improve energy focus and better light distribution to specific bud sites. Some fan leaves instead of cutting I could have safely tuck them under or twist the leaf stem until the leaf fell low.

After feeding the plants in the morning and checking them in the evening they were looking pretty solid and happy like the feeding did them great

So today I have not much to do and I realised that the plants are doing really well. For starters, I just watered and they have enough to drink. For two the weather basically was way better than yesterday so I got really awesome temps and humidity was good. I see absolutely no complaints and they are all doing pretty good and all had a pretty awesome day of development.

So since there is not a lot to do I figured take some measurements of all the light heights and statistics to have a record of what works pretty well around this stage in development.

Purple Kush:

Closest canopy tops hanging at around 35 - 37cm away from light.

Light measurements under Kingbrite are reading out from between 24000 Lux/ 528 umol side top canopy to 28000 Lux/ 616 umol dead center canopy.

I am not exactly sure it should be getting so much light just yet but this plant actually finishes faster and doesn't go long like some 12 week plants do. So maybe it's best to just leave it be so it can develop as fast as it needs to and finish with fat buds.

Fastbuds Pie#2:

Light height is 85cm away from canopy

Under 120w Meijiu reading out at Between 9000 Lux/198 umol to 9400 Lux/207 umol

Strawberry Pie #1:

Light height is 56cm from canopy

Under 240w Meijiu reading out at 12000 Lux/264 umol

Nova OG:

Light height is 58cm from canopy

Under 240w Meijiu reading out at 10000 Lux/ 220 umol

All plants are cross sharing all four lights which are basically now all fully extended (or almost) into the roof of the tent which are all now pulling a mere 220watts

11pm...

Before going to bed I took one last look to see how things were going and noticed two things to keep an eye on.

I need to figure a way to block the wind pressure coming into the tent through the intake hole because it is bending the fan leaves of the plants directly in front of the hole and it doesn't look beneficial especially if the leaves twist so badly the end up upside down which means they don't receive light adequately. No clue yet how I am going to fix that since I do like the idea of having good airflow at ground level but neat distribution with limited space for tubing placement is tricky.

The second thing I noticed was nute burn on the tips of most medium sized plants. The bigger one seems fine but all other medium sized plants seem to need a break in nute uptake with the next watering being preferably plain.

Adjusted all lights to maximum height except the Kingbrite which I doubled the wire which is holding it up giving it more space to adjust even higher. Purple grew to an impressive 83cm from soil. The light was now hanging at around 30cm away from Purple reading out at some places 27000 Lux/594 umol which I found to be too much too fast so I fixed the light so it could go higher at around 40cm away from canopy reading out at around 24000 Lux/528 umol. The plant isn't really complaining about the light intensity but I don't want it to put itself into danger so better I control that and let it go a little slower than it is going.

The other two medium plants are reading out at around 10000Lux and the smaller at around 8000Lux after all adjustments were done. All lights ended up higher to bring a better balance of spread of light in the tent.

In general the plants are looking pretty good and better than I expected. Most have reached that stage where they are getting stronger and are able to develop nicer without the issues they face during seedling stage. I am optimistic all four will produce decent enough harvests.

One thing I needed to fix though was the hanging light above Purple. It was hanging about 36cm and I needed to get it to at least 40cm so I exchanged the hanging cables and replaced them with some old school skinny ones I had and managed to bring the distance between lamp and canopy to 42cm. I then needed to bring the Pie #2 lamp higher and arrange them better beside each other and adjusted all light readings to around the same readings like what I got yesterday.

Apart from lower leaves, top leaves are also showing small signs of calmag faded white blur patches between veins. I am thinking with the extreme light amounts reaching the plant and the growth burst it is burning in plant nutes at excessive rates and I am hoping the watering feed I am adding will help the problem and it doesn't turn into a bad thing. That's at least the good scenario. Bad scenario would be bad ph levels in soil blocking nutes, I am not hoping for the latter. The part is otherwise still growing and looks healthy as the two new stems after topping are developing quite well.

I fed 5 liters water with 5ml calmag, Bloom, Top max, Biovin, Fulvic 25 and seaweed liquid. 10 ml Bio Heaven and Acti Vera. 3ml Root Juice. Pots need to be full from day one to max and need to be watered soon again until I get that heavy weight on the pot's because my watering has not been optimal this season because of the changes that make things different, I will need to learn to adjust to working in smaller spaces

I did full dosage calmag to combat oncoming calmag issues in the leaves.
Nota
I tried down two top big fan leaves that were blocking light to two lower bud sites that have potential to grow up higher and level with top section canopy.

For the past week the Purple Kush has been having a growth burst. Increasing in what seems to be 5cm per day causing me to keep up with it by adjusting the light height and intensity. At the moment it seems to be receiving around 15000 Lux with barely any issues to report just slowly progressing minor calmag looking issues in two bottom leaves but for the most parts it's growing rigorous and leaves look mostly very healthy

Temps have been really great and now that I have the new Internet router installed I am getting better readings from the hygrometer as well as better quality images on the camera. So there are improvements in that investment. Humidifier is now set to 60% but I will need to increase that to 65% because the higher temps will demand more humidity. One thing I did to get better results with temps is let the central heating stay at 21.4C all through the night and turn it down to 20C in the morning before I leave for work knowing it will automatically go back to 21C at 9am. The 20C at night was not working out because the longer parts of the nights the lights are still on and there is always need for higher temps as long as the lights are on

Fed all plants, made a 3.5 liters solution and fed both Strawberry Pie plants around 500 ml shared and fed the remaining 3 liters between the other plants feeding around a liter each.

I mixed in about a liter of worm tower run off, 2ml Calmag, 1 ml root juice, 3ml Liquid Seaweed 4 ml each Bio Heaven, Activera, Biovin, Fulvic 25 and Algamic. I also did a really small amount of Fish Mix liquid. I don't think that was even 1ml but just a little in case the plants have a crave for a little nitrogen. They seem pretty healthy in terms of nitrogen uptake so as usually I didn't think to add too much of that.

Calcium deficiency is definitely an issue with Pie #1 but this could be because of the smaller pot, I am not sure. The bigger Purple Kush for example is showing so far no signs of any deficiency while the Nova OG is showing very small signs of what could be calmag issues. This is why I made sure to add some calmag in this feed. I went with a safe 2 ml because since not all plants have issues with the deficiency and the ones that do show it slightly, best to do a in between safe dosage. Hopefully the smaller amount helps the plants that are complaining and the ones that are not complaining won't mind a little extra. I had to bring down ph levels because the notes added weren't that much and so it ended up at around 7.1 ph and bringing it down took a lot of biobizz ph down so I may need to get another bottle as I suspect this one is losing its down power. But hey. Its still doing its job until the bottle finishes.

I am not hanging more towards the 25 - 27C and more 24C and lower and I suspect this is holding them back a bit in growth compared to plants I grew in the hotter summer months that were matured faster. Its either the temps, humidity or soil difference or a combination of all but I am thinking more temps would be the culprit. I have to now just keep an eye on them and watch for deficiency as I have no idea when the food in the soil will run out or if ph issues will come around blocking nute uptake. I just know things look ok for now.
Nota
Did some research on archived grows to estimate when best to top and I am going with between day 24 to 27 for best results. I came to the conclusion that the leathery look on this one is just genetics. It's the only plant that consistently grows this way and so far there is no sign that the leathery look is unhealthy but just pure genetic features.

Night temps and humidity stable.

The current environment settings seem optimal and should be ones I should aim for with all my grows since growth rate of my plants are looking optimal with zero issues to report. The equipment seem to be performing fine and can be trusted. Light settings however could be just a little lower because there are signs it might be just a tiny bit too much in curls I see in a few leaves. Its not that bad though so for now I will leave it be in this grow and let the plants get stronger and use to it. Hopefully that’s how this will play out if not I will have to turn things down a notch.

Another free day at home on this long four day weekend and again environment did well with the usual averages with little changes. Room humidity 54% with room temp going as high as 26C. I had to adjust central thermostat because today was mostly grey with little sun shining throw the windows for that extra 1C difference. No more than a 0.4C difference is needed though so around 21.4C kept things balanced.

Nota
There are small signs of burn tips on the Pie #1 but that could be because it is in a small pot and reaches hot soil faster than it should. I should have better put that one in all plain soil instead of mix that in with half/half super soil.

The watering from last night was pretty positive, everything is still growing pretty decent.
Nota
So as suspected, the light intensity seemed a bit much for the plants and signs of that could be seen on three plants, Nova mostly, Purple definitely and also the small seedling Pie #2 has small curls on irs leaves edges.

I lifted all lights a little and lower the intensity a little to read out 9000 Lux for Purple and 8000 Lux for Nova and Monkey. I didn't measure Pie #2 because I imagine it should be getting less light as well and any less should be safe.

I pushed the central heating thermostat a bit higher to get some higher temps for today as soon as possible and I notice that the humidity is also dropping while temps rise. I will need to either set humidity levels higher on the humidifer or turn down temps to stick to the best average 24.5C instead of beyond that. It seems the higher the temps around the 24C levels the more accurate the humidity readings get on the humidifier. Its set to 60% and at lower temps you get 65% instead but now temps have risen it is now reading more accurately close to the set 60% zones.

Everything went well today, temps and humidity stable. The only thing I needed to do today was water at the end of the day because the watering yesterday was a bit too thick. Today I gave them a good plain watering hoping the plain water will soften the thick thick mixture of compost and worm castings from yesterday and leak the nutes into the soil. This was the most I watered which ended up being around 4 liters shared between all 5 plants.

Switched the humidifiers and now the new one is inside. I am going to keep the new one inside and study its accuracy and adjust. I set it to 60% and I am getting a reading of 64% on the WiFi hygrometer. That’s for now good enough while the outside humidifer is set to 55%. Good balances for now

Nota
Measureed light reach and heights and decided to increase the amount of light that was reaching the plants, particularly because the small seedling was stretching a lot and I suspected it wasn't getting enough especially since it stays under the plastic dome which reduces light strength. The lights are around 60cm away from pots (not canopy):

Purple Kush and Strawberry Pie #1

10000 Lux/220 umol
52cm away from canopy

Fat Monkey and OG Nova

9000 Lux/198 umol

Strawberry Pie #2

7000 Lux/ 154 umol

Archived and harvested history suggest smaller amounts of light worked out well but I am seeing if a bit more in a tent environment is safe. So far I see minuscule signs of light stress. I think these values are borderline values where a little less would be fine and anymore would cause issues. So far so good...

I fed plants today with 4 liters water in which I added 3ml liquid seaweed, bio heaven, root juice, acti Vera Biovin, fulvic 25 and a little less than a tablespoon molasses. I ph'd this mix very low and collected some compost which I add the feed liquid to the compost and blended them. After checking the ph was still high and it took a lot to bring it down especially since I also added worm casting after blending. After many attempts I finally got it down to an ok value.

I tested ph of bottled water I had standing in the tent that I was using to occasionally water plants and the sad news is it changed to 7.4 ph so I was watering high all this time. As of now I won't water blindly without testing water each time.

Update:

After few hours the thick muddy liquid of blended compost and added worm castings formed a cemented black top layer on the pot's surface so I dug that up with a stick and added long working Central Park soil to the surface so it doesn't look ugly plus evens out the muddy texture

Maintaining the correct settings and environment is tricky. Just when I thought everything was stable and going fine I researched a bit more on VPD and found out it was better to stick to 65% humidity and not 60% at this stage. The humidity was hanging around 58% and that was not good because temps were pretty good hanging around a stable 24.5C for a long time during the daytime. My leaves are looking a bit dry and the purple kush is having a leathery/wrinkle look on the leaves which could very well be humidity issues. Apart from not achieving the best VPD values the plants have grown at amazing rates. I will have to do a big feeding tomorrow to get the soil wet and them having enough water available to deal with any dry air issues.

I changed the humidity on the inside to reach 65% instead of 60% but still on low settings it was still struggling to get that correct so I considered upping the humidity to 70% but thought maybe first set the humidity mist option to its third highest option so it would push out bigger mists and reach 65% faster and more efficient. It seems to be working and immediately after doing this the humidity jumped to 64% when before it was struggling to get there.

I considered changing the outside humidifier levels up to 60% since inside was struggling but I decided against it because I already so a bit of moisture on the windows in the room and thats something I want to avoid besides turning up the mist on the inside humidifier was a better way to solve the issue.

Another day another chance to see if humidity and temps will hold up and ir did rather better than it did yesterday. Temos reached as high as 24.5C and although I made a mistake to turn the humidity down I corrected it when I got home and its now sitting in a safer VPD measure at 60%.

Plant growth is showing and the plants don't seem to have much problem. They got another nice 4 hour sleep break this morning and I will have to watch the break and the extractor fan being off because that can cause increase in humidity which could slide outside safe VPD zones. For the most parts I would say with the challenges of finding balance in temp and humidity I am more on the position side of things.

Humidifier inside set to 60% and outside to 55% and that keeps a steady 60% humidity on the inside

Yesterday after taking pics the plants looked like they were hungry for Nitrogen. Turns out after taking some pics today I found that the lights swing about and cause the plants color to seem pale so I had to take a lot of pictures to find the ones that reflect the light best. In the end I got pics that didn't seem to show nitrogen deficiency. Still though the Pie #1 in the middle of all that light looks pale but I think it's just having too much light on it and will check it in natural light on my free day.

After running a whole day of struggling to achieve optimal warm temps in the room I am arriving at the conclusion that winter grows should better begin autumn and end winter instead of starting winter and ending spring. Cold temps are not best for veg but should be good for flower and drying. So starting end August should be fine when it's still good temps for veg and ending November to December would be perfect. Starting mid winter is too much struggling achieving the right temps if I don't put my heater to 23C which is a not going to happen. So I think I may lose some growth because of this

Added the Kingbrite light to help even out all five plants so they all have an even spread of light. The two Anesia strains are around the same size and age so they can both use the 240w light above them reading out somewhere at 8500 Lux and the Purple Kush has the 120w Kingbrite above it with infrared off and UV on reading out at around 9500 Lux with the Strawberry Pie #1 in the middle reading out at almost the same. The Strawberry Pie #2 is under the 120w Meijiu reading out at about 6500 Lux.

I had to change the thermostat in the house to 21C daytime and 20C nighttime to achieve 24C in the daytime and not less than 20C night time.

I set the humidifier to 60% and its keeping the humidity relatively ok in there with the in-line constantly running. With a second humidifier outside the tent helping to keep the air between 50 to 55% the humidifier inside seems to have less work to do and the room keeps a healthier humidity level than before when I had to keep the whole room at around 65% now most of that moisture can be safely kept in the tent with the general attic keeping a healthier humidity that will avoid mold taking over the windows and damaging wood. So the humidity is keeping up between 59% average and goes up sometimes from there nk higher than 65% which is all safe zones.

23:00pm...

Before going to bed my last log is about adjusting the humidity in the tent to 65% to see if that's a better level since the plants are still pretty young. It was hanging at a steady 59% fans on but I think a little more wouldn't hurt but instead make these young plants even happier. So tomorrow I will see what it will do when set to 65% because for now it is still reading at 59% but I expect in the next hour or so for it to increase by a few points.

Update: right before I went to bed I checked humidity and it was at 64% so I decided to watch the camera to see when the humidifier stops and at what humidity it would become stable. It stopped at 64% which is exactly what I was hoping.

I removed the new humidifier and placed it outside the tent set to keep 50% humidity in the room. It's working way better in the room at reading the correct humidity than it was in the tent. I cleaned up the older humidifier because it was building up a lot of calcium and placed it in the tent, set at 70% which is working accurate when compared with the hygrometers in there.

I setup a camera so I can check the operations of the humidity to make sure everything is working fine and the camera is surprising sharp enough where I can actually see very clearly the mist shooting out of the humidifier. Even in lights out with night vision!

Everything in these new settings is working exactly like they should, I just now need to configure having the in-line fan running and not losing the correct humidity plus figure out how to setup all these things when lights go out also not sacrificing a good balance

During lights off between 1pm to 5pm the temps kept warm and didn't fall too low very fast. For flower I am going to need to figure out getting it to cool off a bit more like pushing the dark period a little later, I will try 3pm to 7pm when it's a bit cooler but not as cold as in the middle of the night because although it reached great lights off temps in the last hour, the first three hours the temps remained high.

The humidity stayed relatively ok even with the in-line fan going the humidifier always corrected the humidity loss, not as perfect as I would have liked but tests are looking positive and stable enough needing only minor adjustments to achieve perfection. I am going to set the humidifier at 65% for a better balance. The oscillating fan stayed on throughout the dark period but I will have to figure out ways to give that a break, the idea of letting that run 24/7 is in my opinion not healthy for the fan. Maybe I install both oscillating fans giving one rest while the other runs to extend fan life.

Life is very easy with remote monitoring of temps and humidity switching on/off oscillating fan and in-line fan when necessary to refresh and move air in the tent. I have a very good idea of what’s happening in there all day and I don’t need to personally check in there with many doubts or worry about how it’s been going. So this remote setup is one I surely won’t be doing without in the future.

Three of the four plants are growing normal leaves while the Strawberry Pie started out with one missing leaf plus deformed leaves looking like a pest was eating pieces from it. I can’t find any such pests and don’t expect any to be present. It just looks like something is up with the plant itself and so it’s growing a bit weird. I am giving it time to see if it will grow out of its weird start.

I turned the oscillating fan on for the first today and that's running a bit more powerful than I would have liked. It could have a softer setting but there isn't much u can do about that at the moment. Also it can't stay out without sliding down so I have to make sure something extra is keeping it from sliding down which could end up becoming a disaster situation if one day it slides down without me knowing and the heavy wind coming from it damages a seedling. It can't oscillate either because the tent comes in too much at the sides and this bothers the movement of the fan but it doesn't seem super necessary to have it rotating since it has a face that spins and spreads air in all directions

In-line fan:

So the question was do I keep this thing running 24/7 from start with the seedlings. I imagined not as much as the recommendations say otherwise. Many growers don’t even use a in-line fan and their seedlings do just fine enough. But my thought about it is, the seedlings are so small that they can do well with having the fan on a now and then a hour at a time to refresh the air. No way a small plant like that in such a big tent will suffer if the fan isn’t on all day. Maybe run the fan 4 times a day at separate one hour intervals, they should be more than fine with that

Also with dome on for first one or so week I don’t need the humidifier to be on. The regular fan is off but I will be turning that on soon
